Christmas Decorating Ideas
Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. That is to say Christmas is full of wonder and magic especially for children regardless of their chronological ages. We decorate our homes both inside and out to add to the wonder. Some folks begin after Thanksgiving and others wait until just before Christmas. With the great silk and artificial greens and poinsettias available now we don't have to worry about the decorations wilting before the season is over. If you are decorating for Christmas on a budget, look around the house for small toys that can be placed in a nest of greenery on the mantel or a side table. This will also work for theme decorations using some of the things you collect like dolls, Teddy bears, your handyman's tools or kitchen gadgets. Let your imagination run free and see what you already have that can be incorporated into a Christmas display. Even different sized boxes wrapped in Christmas paper placed around the room can bring a festive look to your home. An inexpensive solid red, green or white table cover with a tinsel garland looped around the table edge and stitch/tacked to the fabric will dress up an otherwise plain table. The cover can be a fabric length or even a sheet. If it pools on the floor just tuck it under at the bottom. Adding a piece of greenery along the tops of pictures and doorways with a few Christmas bows will add another festive decorating touch to your rooms. A simple addition to these decorations would be to cut out snowflakes from folded paper and place them around the room. Hang a few from fishing line so they can dance in the air movement. Candles make a lovely display when grouped together with some greenery. Colors and candleholders do not need to match and using several different types of candles such as pillars, tapers and votives all in the same group can look very nice. Pine cones are another great Christmas decoration if you can gather them on a nature walk they are even free. Paint some green and glue colored beads to some of the scales. Arrange these tiny Christmas trees in groups on mantel or tables. You can also paint some gold or silver and sit them around in the greenery. This is the time to get the children involved as well. Let them decorate their own room with things they have. The paper snowflakes are a fun project to keep them busy when the excitement gets to be too much. Print out Christmas pictures for them to color and use as decoration as well. |

If you have a tired looking wreath from past years you can dress it up with a new ribbon, add a Teddy Bear or doll or any other favorite stuffed animal and a few candy canes and it will look brand new for this year. |
